Dear Colleagues
The ARA UK and Ireland annual conference is due to begin in Dublin
four weeks from today. We have now finalised our programme with
significant keynotes being given by Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister)
and Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton T.D., and Dr James
King, University of Pittsburgh.
The ARA Conference is a lively opportunity for professionals in the
record keeping field to meet and engage in the largest professional
gathering in the UK and Ireland. The conference theme this year of
'Challenges, Obligations, or Imperatives? The moral and legal role of
the Record Keeper today', has proven to be thought provoking to our
contributors.
Our Archives and Records and Conservation streams have been joined
this year by a Digital Preservation stream as our response to the
changing environment in which we live and work. All in all, 66 papers,
workshops and panels being given by 88 speakers. You cannot find a
better conference offering value for money in your professional field.
The Information Marketplace will of course be present again - your
chance to meet suppliers and chat them up for all the new product
lines! This year we will also have poster displays from doctoral
students, outlining their research in record keeping fields.
Irish colleagues are encouraged to consider attending for a day
session if unable to make it for the whole conference, since it
provides an opportunity to keep your CPD current. Equally, inexpensive
flights are still available on low cost airlines from many UK airports
to Dublin and the chance of being part of some of the proceedings for
UK colleagues is relatively simple.
Finally, we must simply encourage you to visit the conference website
to view the programme, abstracts and biographies and the booking
information. Don't forget our legendary social events. We know you
will be impressed by what is on offer.
