Hi MCGers
I wanted to let you know about a great (and free!) project that Culture24 has developed with the British Council and Storythings that might of interest to UK museums interested in exploring how to connect their online collections with audiences based in China. The project is called ‘Fit for China’ Digital Showcasing and further details (including how to submit an expression of interest) can be found here:
http://weareculture24.org.uk/projects/fit-for-china-digital-showcasing-project/
We are looking to work with 10 UK arts and heritage organisations, the project is free to participate in and there is up to £1,000 available to contribute towards relevant costs. To apply to participate you need to complete a brief expression of interest form by 5pm, Monday 20th July. Whilst not specific just to museums, the project is focussing on repurposing existing digital assets including collections to create engaging online content for Chinese audiences so should be of specific interest to museums.
Recent research commissioned by the British Council shows a growing interest amongst Chinese audiences to engage with UK arts and culture and a great appetite among those interested in experiencing more UK culture for doing so online. With the number of Chinese users online totalling approximately 650 million, the Chinese online market represents a great opportunity for museums to develop reach and engagement of their online collections. There are of course a range of cultural, technical and social barriers in maximising this opportunity and this project is interested at understanding these barriers and exploring how existing UK cultural content can be shaped to overcome them
Would really appreciate if you can spread the word to any UK museums (or other UK arts and heritage organisations) who might be interested. If you have any questions about the programme please contact me on [log in to unmask]
Cheers all
Sejul
