This is a dilemma as we have a journal (Diversity and Equality in Health and Care @diversityjnl ) which exists to make stuff available on open access that will be of interest to the E&D community which often doesn't get into the mainstream large circulation journals. BUT then we get folk who complain that they cannot they cannot get the 900 USD processing charge, which we have to get to make the publisher happy and keep it available in the web! So either you publish free and pay to read, or ....
For what it is worth, note that BMJ etc cost nearer 3000 ..
Solutions on a plate please ?

Hi
I think most of the HI people on this list work for organisations that have subscriptions that will enable them to see this paper if they choose to do so. I don't as a lay person, but I'm sure if I asked Alex he'd send me a copy.
Best wishes
Laura

Forgive me for naivety, but who do you think will be able to see and/or benefit from your paper?
Neo-liberals have the USD 30.00 requested for accessing the paper, however, they would rather use the paper against possible reduction of HI.
The good guys who could use your paper to reduce HI apparently do not have spare USD 30.00 to get to the content of the paper.
So, what’s the point here?
Also what's the point with all other good papers which can not be accessed/used by the good guys?
Who benefits from this state of affairs?
Definitely not the good guys.
Furthermore, WHY should tax payers who fund research/studies to be asked to pay to see the papers of these?
It's time for a change!
