Senior GIS Consultant

Owing to further success, we are now looking to recruit a Senior Geographic Information System (GIS) Consultant to join the Geoscience team in our Bristol Office. To be considered for a role we are seeking candidates with the following credentials:
Minimum Academic Qualifications & Certification:
•A Master’s degree in GIS and/or suitable experience.
Essential Experience:
•Demonstrable post-graduation in a similar position
•ESRI ArcGIS 9.3 or above
•Experience of developing geoprocessing scripts in PostgreSQL and PostGIS
•Experience of QGIS
•Microsoft Access and Excel
•Previous GIS project management experience
•Experience of preparing content for bids and proposals
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Ability to identify innovative solutions to problems
•Well motivated and team focussed with an ability to work without supervision and act on own initiative
•Understanding of relational databases and database design
•Understanding of core principles of GIS and GI data management including enterprise SDIs
•Well motivated and able to work to tight deadlines
•Desire to work within a consultancy environment applying GIS to environment, geoscience and infrastructure projects
•Experience in using ESRI ArcGIS Online for data visualisation and sharing
•Knowledge of UK GIS datasets
•Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM)
Desirable Experience:
•Experience of working within environmental / geoscience (contaminated land / hydrogeology) disciplines
•Experience of working with flood risk data
•Experience of programming in either Python, SQL or VBA
•Exposure to ESRI Model Builder
•Experience of ESRI ArcObjects
•ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE
•ArcGIS Mobile or ESRI Collector App
•Open Source GIS tools such as GDAL
Duties & Responsibilities:
Reporting to the GIS Team Leader, you will be accountable for assisting in the growth of the GIS team by supporting internal business; assisting the UK GIS lead in developing external opportunities and managing GIS projects. You will also act as the GIS team technical lead for PostGIS and mentor junior staff.
You will assist in the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget, time-frame and quality targets, meeting or exceeding client expectations, promoting and marketing all facets of Hyder’s services during interfaces with clients and other sectors and disciplines, contributing towards the achievement of the divisional business plan and to build networks within the industry.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
•Acting as a GIS team technical lead for PostgreSQL and PostGIS
•Managing and delivering GIS projects for internal and external clients
•Preparing and coordinating work for GIS staff based in the UK and overseas (travel not required)
•Preparing and contributing to internal and external project bids and proposals
•Liaising with internal and external clients
•Providing GIS technical mentoring to other GIS staff
•Undertaking presentations on GIS
•Undertaking GIS mapping, analysis, data capture, data management and geoprocessing
•Extraction and formatting of CAD and BIM data into GIS formats
•Analysing and developing databases
•Analysing data in Excel
•Working with the GIS team to deliver GIS deliverables to tight deadlines
•Undertaking quality control of GIS work undertaken by other GIS staff
•Contributing to the technical development of the GIS team through sharing ideas and innovations
•Occasional travel to our other offices for business development and project meetings
•Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or Hyder
