Dear all,
GeolSoc members of this list will already have received the
notice for this conference, so I am forwarding it for the
benefit of those not in the GeolSoc, since hydrocarbon
exploration is the main employer and financer of geophysicists.
Deadline for submission of papers is 27th November.
Sheila Peacock,
list co-owner.

Over the past few years conventional discoveries have decreased in volume, and are now typically challenged by both complexity and location. In their place alternate and unconventional sources of energy are rapidly developing, including ultra-deep oil, tight oil, shale gas and renewables. At the same time, changing economic and political systems are affecting the balance of demand, the price of oil has fallen dramatically, and the exploration industry is undergoing a significant change in its experience demographic. The
new generation of academic and industry geoscientists will be at the forefront of facing the many challenges that these factors pose.
This two-day meeting aims to bring together early career geoscientists with leading industry and academic experts to discuss and show case recent and potential future innovations in hydrocarbon exploration geoscience. The meeting will provide an excellent forum for networking and an opportunity for graduate students and young professionals to present their research. The conference offers more experienced hydrocarbon exploration geoscientists new research, ideas and concepts plus the chance to add their experience to the panel discussion.
*Conference themes*
1. The challenges of career development at $50-$70 oil: rethinking training, and exploring Chartership.
2. Adapting established techniques to enhance exploration potential
3. Building effective links between Industry and Academia: successful Joint Industry Projects and Academic Consortia.
4. The future Exploration tool box: new techniques and software solutions
A panel discussion on the “Future of Hydrocarbon Exploration” will be chaired by Prof. John Underhill (CDT)

Naturally fractured reservoirs constitute a substantial percentage of remaining hydrocarbon resources; they create exploration targets in otherwise impermeable rocks, including under-explored crystalline basement; and they can be used as geological stores for anthropogenic carbon dioxide. Their complex behaviour…read more <http://report.mynewsletterbuilder.com/t.js?s=55a88254af5225eb6d0023c4&u=34512267&v=3&key=88d3&skey=646a7da58f&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.geolsoc.org.uk%2Fsp374%3Futm_medium%3Demail%26utm_source%3DMyNewsletterBuilder%26utm_content%3D%23subscriber_id%23%26utm_campaign%3DCall%2Bfor%2BPapers%2Bfor%2BFrontiers%2BMeeting%2B2016%2BThe%2BFuture%2Bof%2BHydrocarbon%2BExploration%2B1412404611%26utm_term%3Dread%2Bmore>
