International Association for the Study of Forced Migration
Working Group Seed Funding Opportunity
Formally established in 1994, the International Association for the Study of Forced Migration – IASFM ( http://iasfm.org/ ) has become the most significant forum for academics, activists, and policymakers from around the world to present research and discuss issues related to forced migration. At our 15th Annual Meeting in Bogota, Colombia, July 2014, we formed a common vision statement ( http://iasfm.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/IASFM-Winter15-Newsletter.pdf ) with the Refugee Research Network (RRN: http://refugeeresearch.net/ ) in order to strengthen the field of forced migration studies by: 1) expanding our awareness of the global knowledge regime concerning refugee and forced migration issues, 2) improving communication of this knowledge within and between academic, policy making, and practice sectors within and between the Global South and North, and 3) building alliances and support for the development of regional and global policy frameworks and humanitarian practices affecting refugees and forced migrants. With these goals in mind, we are pleased to announce a new Working Group Seed Fund initiative intended to expand the opportunities for collaboration of IASFM members, especially young scholars and grass roots members.
Proposal Criteria:
Applicants can apply for seed funds up to $1,000USD to (1) strengthen already existing working groups and research clusters within IASFM and RRN or (2) support the creation of new ones. Both lead applicants and members of the working group must be IASFM members ( http://iasfm.org/membership-2012/ ) and preference will be given to groups that include new scholars and researchers from the global south. Awardees are required to participate at the Sixteenth IASFM Annual Meeting in Poznań, Poland in July, 2016. We will be awarding up to 5 grants. These are one-off grants intended to support ‘start-up’ activities as groups develop proposals for outside sources of funding. As such the grants cannot be used to sustain already existing activities. Successful proposals will articulate clear objectives, deliverables and timelines.
Deadlines: September 1st, 2015 (October 1st, 2015 notification).
A completed application includes: (1) Statement of purpose, (2) Group members (3) Proposed Activities, (4) Budget with justification, (5) Completed working group member profile available on IASFM website ( http://iasfm.org/working-groups/ ).
