Aston Villa Football Club is looking to appoint an Archivist who will:
• Be responsible for the collection, maintenance and charge of material concerning the history of Aston Villa Football Club.
• Participate in and deliver research, education and outreach activities where appropriate.
• Ensure the Club complies with its statutory responsibility concerning archives in line with legislation, national standards and best practice.
Job Description
General Management
• Contribute to the development of policies, procedures and plans for service delivery, collections management and outreach as appropriate.
• Assist in the development and training of staff including project staff, work experience students and volunteers.
Collections Management
• Appraising, sorting, accessioning and cataloguing the archive collection of Aston Villa FC, ensuring that the Club has a full understanding of the archive material we have.
• Appraising the conservation needs of our archive material and advising the Club accordingly.
• Ensuring that accurate records of items loaned to the Club are maintained, that these items are kept in good condition and that appropriate liaison with the owners/lenders takes place.
• Maintain an awareness of private sales and football auctions and advise on desirable purchases for the club.
• Carrying out periodical audits of archive material on display to confirm possession and condition, offering advice on the security of displayed items.
• Facilitating the digitisation of the club’s collection of archive photographs in conjunction with the Marketing Department.
Service Delivery
• Promote the use of the Club’s archive resource for research, education, cultural and leisure activities and commercial exploitation.
• Servicing of internal and external historical enquiries and related requests.
• Providing a quality in-house reading room service to researchers.
• Develop content for publication in the matchday programme and on the Club’s website.
Outreach
• Providing and coordinating historical displays that enhance customer experience.
• Updating the script and suggesting improvements for Stadium Tours.
• Represent the Club and the Archives Service at such meetings as are deemed appropriate including those of affiliated organisations, such as the Aston Heritage Network.
• Be an effective ambassador for the Club and the Archives Service in all relationships necessary to support its objectives including the delivery of talks, presentations and interviews with the press.
• Supporting the work of the Community Department in all related outreach activity.
General duties
• To provide occasional ad-hoc support to colleagues within Football Operations and other departments as and when required.
• Able to undertake physical duties such as climbing ladders and moving heavy weights with due regards to health and safety regulations.
• Any other reasonable duties and responsibilities which your manager or another senior officer of the Club asks you to perform.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
• Diploma or Master’s Degree in Archives Administration.
• Pre or post qualification experience of working in an archive environment and cataloguing archives according to ISAD(G).
• Experience of working with the public.
Training, Skills and Knowledge
Essential
• Knowledge of regulatory framework governing archives including relevant legislation, standards and best practice.
• Ability to work methodically and keep clear written records.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to be self motivating and be part of a team.
• Ability to act on own initiative.
• Adopts a flexible attitude in order to manage a varied workload.
• Enthusiasm to learn and a positive attitude to training.
Preferred
• A good general knowledge of the history of English Football and Aston Villa FC.

•Friendly and approachable, with the ability to support and help colleagues from other departments, whilst managing expectations.
Hours: Full Time, 35 hours a week (with the possibility of Part Time)
Contract: Fixed-Term for 2 years (with the possibility of extension)
