Hi
Hunter, K.L 2003 Plant macrofossils, in McKinley, Jacqueline, .I. The Early Saxon cemetery at Park Lane, Croydon. Surrey Archaeological Collection, 90,2003
there were hazelnuts preserved in a Cu alloy bowl
I understand the toxicity of the metal can be a factor in the preservation process.
I have seen wood preserved by iron from a number of sites including Sutton Hoo (wood in contact with ship rivets),Stanwick Villa, Northamptonshire (the wooden handle of an iron knife)both of these were "mineralised".

Subject: Plant remains in association with Metal Objects
Dear colleagues,
I was wondering if anyone knew of any examples of plant or insect remains
preserved in association with metal objects, particularly copper alloy? Are
these usually preserved in corrosion product, through mineralisation?
If anyone can direct me towards publications discussing this, it would be
very much appreciated. Apologies for the naivety of the question.
I hope you are all well and thank you in advance!
Best Wishes,
Hayley
