Good afternoon-
I am writing with regards to a new study abroad program in the German- and Italian-speaking Alpine region of South Tyrol, Italy that is trying to get off the ground starting next year. The program, which are directed by ethnographic anthropologist Ann Wand, is designed to provide internship opportunities for American students who would like to work and study abroad.
Ethnographic field school of Bolzano
This program is designed to be a 4 week summer program for students of anthropology, journalism, policy and language (along with any other relevant fields) who would like to have exposure working and studying in a bilingual-speaking province. The summer school is partially designed to provide teaching opportunities for postgraduate students, while simultaneously providing academic accreditation and work experience for undergraduate students. Courses will focus on concepts of nationalism, regionalism, ethics and EU policy by academics in the relevant fields. Fieldwork will also be included. Housing will be located within 5 minutes of the Bolzano city centre. The city itself is an hour by train from Innsbruck, Austria and Trento, Italy. Courses will be provided Monday through Thursday allowing ample opportunities for students to travel during the weekends.
As this program is in the early stages of development, we are looking to start with a smaller group of students of approximately 10-20 students maximum for next summer with the idea of expansion depending on student interest. Our main interest now is learning from the anthro-l environment.
Presuming this program is of interest, you can contact the director at: [log in to unmask]

Subject: Language and Anthropology
Dear Colleague,
We are pleased to announce that the latest issue of Anthropological Journal of European Cultures has been published by Berghahn Journals. This special issue is titled Language and Anthropology. Within the field of anthropology, there is a comprehensive linguistic sub-discipline which deals with issues from semiotics and linguistics to identity and intangible cultural heritage. This special volume of AJEC emerged from our desire to explore that sub-discipline in a European context.
Please visit the Berghahn website for more information about the journal: www.journals.berghahnbooks.com/ajec
