A vacancy has arisen for a statistical programmer to undertake research and training in the department’s statistics group. This is an opportunity to begin a career as medical statistician in a highly supportive statistics group within a department that was ranked highest in its field (primary care research) in the Research Assessment Exercise 2008.
The postholder will be responsible for providing statistical support to a variety of projects in the department. This will include statistical modelling, hypothesis testing, and sample size calculations. The postholder will also be responsible for assisting with support for the computing needs of the statistics group, including the migration and management of a source control system.
We are seeking a candidate with: education to MSc level or higher in statistics – or, with similar education in another subject and experience in statistics; programming skills (typically in a statistics package such as Stata or R); an interest in the medical research of the department; and the communication, teamwork and time-management skills needed for working in large interdisciplinary teams on multiple projects. Although a full-time position is available, there is flexibility to consider a promising candidate who would prefer to work part-time; such candidates are encouraged to raise this at interview if selected.
