There is an opening for a doctoral (TV-L E13, 75%) or postdoctoral researcher (TV-L E13, 100%) position in the project “Dynamic poverty measurement” within a larger initiative “Reducing poverty risk in developing countries” at the University of Goettingen. This project deals with statistical estimators of distributional patterns of growth, which are related to quantile processes. We are looking for mathematicians or statisticians interested in interdisciplinary research with background in nonparametric regression and stochastic processes. More details and application procedure are given in the joint advertisement:

To work on three collaborative research projects, the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen
Development Economics Research Group announces positions for

up to 9 Doctoral Researchers and up to three Post-
Doctoral Researchers in development economics or
closely related disciplines.

All doctoral researchers will be able to complete a Ph.D. as part of a structured Ph.D.
program. Post-doctoral researchers can also pursue their own research within the research
agenda of the following three projects:
The first project, funded by the Ministry of Science and Culture in Lower Saxony is called
'reducing poverty risk in developing countries.' It includes projects for dynamic poverty
measurement, the measurement of vulnerability to poverty, the influence of mother and
child health on poverty risk, the role of risk and investments in micro companies, and the
role of informal networks on poverty reduction. The first two projects require particular
strengths in quantitative and statistical modelling, while the other three projects require
particular expertise in empirical development economics. In this project there are 5 Ph.D.
positions and 1 post.doc position available, each for a duration of three years. For more
information, please see http://www.uni-goettingen.de/en/news/65596.html.
The other two projects are part of the 'GrOW' (Growth and Economic Opportunities of
Women) Program, funded by IDRC, the Hewlett Foundation, and DFID. The projects
include partners in South Africa, India, and Holland. The first one is about the impact of
economic growth on the economic empowerment of women. The projects managed by
Göttingen will include a project to develop a conceptual framework for this linkage,
econometric analysis of the impact of growth on labor force participation, the influence of
growth on occupational and sectoral segregation by gender, and the linkage between
female employment and domestic violence. The second projects consists of a systematic
review of scientific findings of the impact of gender inequality on economic growth. For
both these projects, there are 4 Ph.D. positions available (running for 1-2 years) as well as
2 post-doc positions also running for 1-2 years. For more information, please see:
http://www.uni-goettingen.de/en/news/65596.html.

To qualify for the Ph.D. positions, applicants must hold an outstanding degree (diploma,
master or magister level) in economics, econometrics, or statistics. A specialization in
development economics issues is desirable. Further qualifications are strong analytical
skills, a strong quantitative background, proven interest in topics related to these research
projects, strong computer skills and very good English language skills. Requirements for
the post-doc positions are a outstanding Ph.D. in the areas of development economics,
statistics or econometrics, and proven interest in the research topics of the projects.
The positions will be based in Göttingen, but will require international travel for research
visits, data collection, internships and research exchange.
As equal opportunities employer, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen intends to promote
women and men in the context of statutory requirements. For this reason suitably
qualified women are specifically invited to apply. Equally qualified applicants with
disabilities will be given preferential treatment.
The positions are available as of August 2015 and the deadline of applications is July 24,
2015.

Please send applications, including a CV, copies of degrees, a writing sample, and names
of two academic referees to [log in to unmask]; please also indicate
which project would are applying for.
Please contact Stephan Klasen ([log in to unmask]) for further information.

You may leave the list at any time by sending the command
