Senior Medical Statistician – Vascular Disease Mega-trials and Genetic Epidemiology

The Clinical Trial Service Unit (CTSU) is a major international research institute within the Nuffield Department of Population Health, and is one of the world’s leading centres for research into chronic diseases, such as cancer and heart disease.
We are seeking a talented Senior Medical Statistician to contribute to the advancement of our research programme in relation to large-scale studies of cardiovascular disease and who wishes to further develop their experience and expertise within a leading academic unit.
The successful candidate will focus on a programme of clinical trial-related and pharmacogenetic research in relation to cardiovascular therapies. You will plan research and implement statistical analyses related to clinical trials as well as elucidating our understanding of vascular risk factors and therapies, including taking responsibility for trial-related, epidemiological and genetic research projects. You will also contribute to teaching/training programmes and grant funding applications.
You will have PhD or MSc in statistics/mathematics (or closely related subject) and relevant post-qualification research experience. You will have demonstrated excellent skills and knowledge in applied statistics and statistical programming (in SAS/R or similar statistical packages), have experience of clinical trials and/or epidemiological studies, and have published in related areas. You will be able to work in a team or independently and have excellent communication and organisational skills.
An appointment at Grade 7 (£30,434 – £37,394 p.a.) may be considered for an ambitious candidate with potential but less experience, for which an initial appointment would be as ‘Medical Statistician’ with an appropriate adjustment in responsibilities.
The post is full-time and fixed-term for 3 years, in the first instance.
