Research statistician - IRC199513
MRC Biostatistics Unit, Cambridge
MRC band 4. 3-year Fixed Term. Salary scale £29,567 - £34,144
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Research Statistician to work with Professor Sylvia Richardson, Director, and Dr Brian Tom, Programme Leader, to carry out cutting edge statistical methodology research that will be applied to substantive medical problems in different disease areas, notably dementias. You will join the internationally-renowned MRC Biostatistics Unit and teams that have strong focus on Bayesian hierarchical modelling, statistical genomics, stratified medicine and longitudinal data modelling.
As part of its involvement in Dementias Platform UK (DPUK), the Unit is seeking to appoint a research statistician in Biostatistics who will develop and apply state-of-the-art risk stratification and integrative/hierarchical modelling methodologies to data arising from Dementias Platform UK cohorts, and more generally, in order to better understand sources of heterogeneity in diseases such as the dementias.
You will have a PhD in statistics, a strong statistical computing and programming background, and have solid experience in Bayesian modelling, in the statistical analysis of longitudinal and event history data and/or in the integration and modelling of data of different types and complexities, including from high-dimensional genetic, genomic or imaging modalities. You must have good communication skills and be able to contribute substantially to the writing of scientific papers.
The position will cut across the research programmes of Professor Richardson and Dr Tom on "Statistical Genomics and the Analysis of High Dimensional Data" and "Statistics for Stratified Medicine and Analysis of Complex Phenotypes". The post holder will also work closely with other members of their team and with other teams within the Unit.
The MRC Biostatistics Unit aims to advance medical science by the development, application and dissemination of statistical methods. It is one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions and includes many internationally renowned statisticians. It provides a privileged environment for conducting research within the Cambridge biomedical environment.
Starting salary will be in the range of £29,567 - £34,144 per annum, supported by a flexible pay and reward policy, 30 days annual leave entitlement, and an optional MRC final salary Pension Scheme.
