Coastal and Maritime Archaeology of the Modern Era
Joint Conference of the Society for Post-Medieval Archaeology and Nautical Archaeology Society
Portland Building, University of Portsmouth
21st - 22nd November 2015
The Society for Post-Medieval Archaeology is pleased to be partnering with the Nautical Archaeology Society to host a joint conference at the University of Portsmouth on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November 2015.
The aim of the joint event is to bridge the gap between terrestrial and marine archaeology audiences, focusing on the post-medieval period from the 16th century to the present day.
The conference will particularly focus on the way that ships and shipping are generative of the modern world. Terrestrial archaeologists often study sites and assemblages either produced for or procured by maritime trade and warfare and yet there is a disconnect between the two sub-disciplines. The conference is excited to have an amazing line-up of speakers from Britain and overseas including the USA, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, France and Belgium.
Take a look at the conference programme and find out more about how to register on the SPMA and NAS websites: http://www.spma.org.uk/events/conference2015/ and http://www.nauticalarchaeologysociety.org/content/nas-spma-conference-2015
Reduced registration fees are available until 5th October 2015 for students and members of SPMA or NAS, and delegates also attending the Royal Archaeological Institute's conference 'Ships and Shorelines: Maritime Archaeology for the 21st Century' on 16th - 18th October 2015.
