Research Fellow in Rail Freight Services and Logistics corridors
MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) in
Spain have partnered to create an international program for education and research in logistics &
supply chain management. This successful partnership led to the creation of the MIT Global
SCALE Network that now spans four continents. The ZLC has now an opening for a
Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the vibrant and growing research team.
The research fellow in Rail Freight Services and Logistics corridors will focus on the challenges
for the logistic services of smart, green and integrated transport. The research will deal with the
challenge of providing the capacity for affordable and attractive services required to enable the
modal shift from road to rail according to five main indicators: reliability, lead time, costs,
flexibility and visibility. Specifically the research will develop a set of concepts, methods and
tools for improvement of the rail freight service according to these five indicators by cooperation
within the rail sector and also by increasing cooperation in the supply chain. A special emphasis
will be done in the development of business and governance models for successful cooperation
in the supply chain by market segment. Furthermore, the fellow is expected to contribute to the
definition of synchromodal solutions for supply and demand based on shared data, to validate
and improve the control tower concept in one specific logistics corridor as a living lab. Finally, it
is expected that the researcher will publish the results derived from the work in scientific papers.
