Opening from Tuesday 30th June at New Mills Heritage and Information
Centre, High Peak, Derbyshire, a celebration of 150 years of railway
history in New Mills.
From the Royal Assent on 15th May 1860 of the joint Midland/Manchester
Sheffield and Lincolnshire companies’ line to New Mills and the opening
of the station in 1865, through to the Beeching cuts of 1970 and the
music trains of 2015, the exhibition includes snapshots from the busy
history of the railway in New Mills and particularly of Central station.
Developed with the support of the Midland Railway Society the display
has original artefacts, model trains from the 1950s and 1960s as well
as tableau reconstructions of some once-familiar railway sights.
The exhibition runs until the end of July. Admission is free.
New Mills Heritage and Information Centre is situated on Rock Mill Lane,
New Mills, High Peak, Derbyshire, SK22 3BN. The Centre is open Tuesday
to Sunday 10.30 to 16.00 (16.30 at week-ends).
