Well, personally I don't see any advantage in mapping results on e.g. the MNI ICBM templates which are available to everyone if one could provide additional information by mapping results onto some image reflecting my particular subjects.
For sure it always depends on the purpose. Take Caret figures, they give a nice overview. But mapping onto the PALS might be misleading with regard to anatomy, with regard to cluster sizes in some instances, especially as there are various mapping parameters hardly anyone ever reports (but which allow to e.g. turn small clusters in very large ones). If you wanted to illustrate that a cluster is located in a highly folded brain region it would be nice to also get a figure based on the underlying data and not just the Caret figure or an overlay on the Colin brain.
