Museums are full of stories, but how might more be told?
Tuesday 23rd June 2015
12.00-13.30
Rose Gallery, Rose Theatre Kingston
As part of Kingston’s Festival of Stories, this talk turns to the National Maritime Museum Greenwich as a site and object of storytelling. Addressing this year’s theme of The Untold Story, two PhD students from Kingston University’s School of Art & Design History will chart two very different journeys: one uncovered within archival sources; the other written into being through visitor experiences.
Picking selected objects, Sarah will speak about the relationship between museum exhibits and archives, showing how research can uncover connections between them. Stephanie will introduce the concept of the ‘Post-Museum’, and how it can expand a museum’s reach far beyond its physical walls
Now in its third year, the Festival is a collaboration between Kingston University, the Royal Borough of Kingston, Creative Youth and the Rose Theatre. Kingston Connections celebrates storytelling from across the borough and around the world from 22nd of June to 30th June.
