On 30th September in Telford, Gloucestershire, I will be giving an evening
talk of about one hour on the use and abuse of gloves. This has been
arranged by the Gloucestershire branch of the IIRSM. It has been decided to
make this talk open to anyone with an interest in this complex topic.
Participation is entirely free of charge.
My talk will be an extended version of the short talk I gave at the Health
and Wellbeing at Work conference in March. Apparently what I said fell on
fertile ground, as I have since been asked to give a similar talk to the
Irish Society of Occupational Medicine!
The talk will provide an understanding of the complex way in which gloves
work and fail and in particular why the manufacturers' published performance
data rarely applies to what will be achieved in practice. It will provide a
structured way in which to approach the provision of gloves. Whilst it will
concentrate on protection against chemical hazards it will also touch on
biological protection issues. The talk will also include the (damaging)
effects that wearing of gloves can have on the skin of the hands and how
these can be minimised.
Anyone who is interested in taking part should contact Peter Hodgson of
SureTeam ([log in to unmask]) who is chair of the local IIRSM branch.
Alternatively, e-mail me and I will pass your details on to Peter.
For the record, before posting this message I checked with Karen who agreed
that as this is a non-commercial event this was OK.
