Dear Member of the Forum,
My school has currently started a project funded by DfES to teach Mandarin Chinese to Year 1 and Year 2 pupils in a partner school. The project and lessons have been observed and the initial outcome has been presented to the new State minister, who has shown a great interest in the project.
He has also asked for existed hard evidence and benefits in terms of teaching Mandarin in Y1 and Y2. He would also like to know if there are other independent schools teaching Mandarin to children at a young age.
I am convinced that other independent schools especially pre-schools are teaching or have been teaching the subject. I will be really grateful if you could let me know if your school has taught, is teaching or will teach Mandarin KS1 or early KS2. It would be more helpful if there is some clear evidence showing the benefits of the teaching.
Please kindly reply to my personal email address instead of the whole forum.
Many thanks in advance.
Rain
