Software Developer - Ecosystem Services
eCountability, an innovative company providing environmental tools and services to the private and public sectors globally, seeks a software developer to code new tools in the field of ecosystem services. You will have a degree level qualification in computer science or GIS and training or substantial professional experience in a suitable software development environment. An interest or background in environmental science or ecology and associated data management and analysis would be an advantage. You will need to be based in the UK and work from home, collaborating online and occasionally face-to-face with company staff and project partners around the UK. You must be willing to travel with the potential for occasional nights away from home. This is a twelve month position from September, part-time at between 2 and 4 days per week, salary up to £35,000 per annum pro rata, dependent on skills and experience. Consideration will be given to recent graduates with demonstrable technical skills.

Required Skills
• Software engineering skills in a mixture of development languages and technologies associated with mobile/desktop/web/server mapping and geospatial systems, e.g. Java, C#, Python, HTML, Javascript, CSS, SQL, XML, OGC WMS/WFS, OpenLayers, GeoEXT, Geoserver etc. Preference will be given to those candidates who can demonstrate a proven ability to create usable on-line mapping systems with an understanding of the complete end to end technology stack;
• Software engineering lifecycle, e.g. Agile development sprints, configuration control, testing, documentation;
• Visualisation, management or analysis of geospatial data
• Self discipline and time management
Desirable Skills and Experience
• Geospatial database technologies and data modelling, e.g. PostGIS
• Desktop GIS, e.g. QGIS /ArcGIS/MapInfo
• UML modelling
• Server design, installation, configuration, support and maintenance
• Cloud services; specification and use of
• Automatic report generation, e.g. JasperReports, MS Office/LibreOffice macros in docs/spreadsheets
• Comfortable delivering technical presentations to a diverse audience
