All,
I want to bring your attention to a short proposal that came out of our
last meeting, following the discussion led by Corey and TomJ. The
proposal is at:
http://wiki.dublincore.org/index.php/RDF_Application_Profiles/blendingDoc
This is also listed on our main wiki page [1] under Working Documents.
In light of what we know today about the direction of the W3C RDF
validation work and the developing SHACL standard [2], Corey and Tom
(with me as liaison to W3C) are proposing that we re-evaluate the work
of our group to be defined as a complement to the W3C activity. The very
short gist is that W3C should address the technology of RDF validation,
and that DCMI is logically and historically well-placed to propose a
compatible direction for Application Profiles.
Re-focusing our group's work on DCAM, DCAP and DSP would allow us to
solve problems are beyond the strict letter of RDF validation, such as
the definition of "records," integration of RDF and non-RDF resources,
and documentation functions.
I do want to say here that the work that we have done in identifying our
RDF validation needs has been an extremely valuable input to the W3C
group, and I intend to continue to make our validation needs visible to
that community. So nothing that is suggested in the "Blending" document
should be seen as taking away from the work already done, but will build
on its solid foundation.
Please read the (short!) document, and bring any feedback you have to
this list.
Thanks,
kc
