Colleagues,
There was a meeting in May at the British Library to discuss the Research Education Space report titled 'Academic requirements for pre-1989 BBC archive content.'
The report, written by Richard Hewett, was commissioned by RES which is a collaboration between the BBC, the BUFVC and Jisc.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the British Library, the BBC, BUFVC, the Educational Recording Agency (ERA), the Science Museum and a number of universities.
The main recommendation of the Hewett report is for an extension to the ERA licence to cover pre-1989 material and the ERA CEO, Helen Nicholson made an encouraging statement and was broadly supportive of the report's contents.
This was a useful meeting to discuss issues around the problem of access to the BBC's archives. If you have a particular interest in access to BBC archives and would like a copy of the detailed minutes just reply to this email with the word MINUTES in the subject line. I will keep a list of those who email me in case we hold a follow up meeting in the future.
Best, Hugh
