As the general editor, I am pleased to announce the new Journal of Chinese History, which will be published by Cambridge University Press Journals in two issues a year, beginning in January 2017. Full information on how to submit an article may be found at the Cambridge University Press Journals website: http://journals.cambridge.org/jch .
As stated on the website, the journal will publish research articles, review essays, and book reviews on all periods of Chinese history and all fields of history—social, political, cultural, economic, and intellectual. Innovative articles of any length will be considered, but preference is for articles of broad interest to historians of China and of moderate length (8,000 to 14,000 words).
We welcome suggestions for special issues, and hope that most years one of our issues will be a special issue. These could draw from papers presented at a conference, meeting, or workshop, or could be commissioned by a guest editor. Articles submitted as part of special issues will undergo the same double blind refereeing as articles submitted individually. We would be happy to discuss possible special issues two or even three years in advance, to allow time for articles to be written and reviewed.
Because the journal will cover all periods, four associate editors have been appointed to help ensure that submitted manuscripts are given expert evaluation. These are, for the pre-Tang period, Robin McNeal (Cornell), the Tang-Song-Yuan period, Beverly Bossler (UC Davis), the Ming-Qing period, Ken Hammond (New Mexico), and the twentieth century, Janet Chen (Princeton).
The names of the members of the editorial board can be found on the Cambridge University Press website.
