Kingston Heritage Service seeks a qualified Assistant Archivist to join the local history and archives service. We require someone with excellent customer service skills, some experience of working in a busy research room, and practical experience of archives management. You must be able to balance collections management, public facing duties and meet deadlines in a flexible, well-organised and methodical way. You will be confident working with a range of ICT packages, including Microsoft Office, Google applications and Collections Management Software, such as CALM.
You will be an excellent team player, working closely with colleagues in the Local History and Archives Service, and the wider Heritage Team in Kingston Museum. You will be an effective communicator and work to build relationships both internally across the Council, and the wider community.
In the first months of this appointment, you will be involved in the preparation and move from temporary accommodation in Surbiton, to a newly refurbished Research Room and office facilities in a former Magistrates’ Court in the Grade II listed Guildhall in Kingston town centre. As of the Autumn, you will be permanently based in the Guildhall and be required to work Wednesday – Friday with alternate Saturday working, and evening working on alternate Thursdays.
