Dear All,
I was just wondering if anyone here could be of any assistance to me at an
early stage in my research activities. I am studying destruction ceremonies
of pirated media, often held in conjunction with World Intellectual
Property Day 2015 or as ways to placate the USTR representatives, as well
as avoid inclusion on the Special 301 Report Priority Watch List. I have
briefly written on the subject before (
http://rhizome.org/editorial/2014/jun/19/pyres-profane-and-profound-when-destruction-cultur/)
but am looking to undertake fieldwork to build my knowledge.
I am having trouble communicating with the organisations that hold such
ceremonies and was hoping to connect with an existing researcher who has
come across such ceremonies or covers the broader anthropology of media or
copyright law in their activities. Advised reading, precedents;
ethnographic and theoretical, would also be most welcome.
Any other advice to an early-career researcher would be most appreciated!
Thanks all,
Timothy Cooper
