The use of extensive genetic information will transform healthcare over the next decade. Genomics plc is seeking talented statistical geneticists and bioinformaticians to design and implement novel approaches to making inferences from large-scale data. The successful candidates will work on improving health and healthcare through applied analysis of the relationship between genetic and biomedical data. You will work with leading scientists, and a talented technical team, to deliver cutting-edge science in genome analytics.
You should have proven experience of analyzing genome-wide genetic variation in the context of understanding human biology and disease. Your skills will allow you to summarize and visualize complex datasets to look for patterns of association, or potential biases, through detailed analysis. As part of our scientific team you should be able to apply standard statistical approaches, and to contribute to the development of novel computational tools. You will be able to discuss and explain complex ideas to both specialists and non-specialists.
Genomics was launched in 2014 by four leading statistical geneticists at the University of Oxford: Peter Donnelly, Gil McVean, Gerton Lunter, and Chris Spencer. The company is working to use genomic data to transform healthcare, from the diagnosis of disease, to treatment choice, to improving drug development. Following a substantial funding round the company is looking to grow from its current position of 30 employees.
The position is suitable for an individual with a strong quantitative background, preferably statistics, and with experience in genetics or genomics. We would also consider strong statistical candidates interested in moving into genetics applications from other areas of data science. If you enjoy thinking creatively about challenging problems in an applied clinical and research setting, this job is for you.
