Glasgow Science Centre are recruiting for a number of Science Communicators to work within the My World of Work Live! team to deliver activities that ignite an interest in STEM careers for all of our audiences including education, public and corporate visitors.
This is an exciting opportunity to be a key player in the delivery of the My WOW Live! project being funded by our partners SDS.
Overview
Glasgow Science Centre (GSC) is one of Scotland’s must-see visitor attractions. Our mission is to promote science and technology through thought provoking, fun and exciting experiences that inspire all to explore and understand the world around them.
Key responsibilities:
To implement the GSC 5 star Customer Service promise: offer a fun, safe and welcoming environment to all customers.
To help ensure that My World of Work Live! programmes are interesting and current and are delivered in an entertaining, effective and professional manner.
To engage visitors and communicate scientific concepts accurately. This will include relating activities to STEM careers, provoking discussion and making links to visitors’ everyday experiences.
To maintain product knowledge for all areas of GSC and provide an integrated, co-ordinated and professional level of service to our customers at point of contact.
To participate in training and receive/give peer evaluation as required to effectively and efficiently carrying out your job.
To ensure the work area is clean and functional at all times. This includes the daily cleaning of exhibits, equipment, performance spaces, storage cupboards etc.
Skills, Experience and Personal Qualities:
Confident with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Good presentation skills with ability to present to large groups
Knowledge of the Curriculum for Excellence
Strong organisational skills
Strong time management skills
A genuine enthusiasm for science and technology
Motivation and creativity to convey science, technology and careers information to others
