Dear all,
I'm currently co-editing a thematic issue on "Surveillance & Control"
for the academic journal of German media studies "Zeitschrift für
Medienwissenschaft".
Since media studies are always interested in the historical perspective
on current affairs, we hope to find a historical document that could
serve as a ressource or material for further analysis, especially in the
context of dataveillance, Big Data, data mining etc.
The idea is be to find a document or text published before ca. 1950
(i.e. in the stone age of data) that could invite us to view present
practices of data mining and surveillance/control in a new
perspective... In short, the "Panopticon Letters" for the NSA age?
Any suggestions or hints would be very welcome!
Best,
Dietmar
