Issue 03 of the Science Museum Group Journal has now been published and is available to view online at: http://journal.sciencemuseum.org.uk/issues/spring-2015/
Our 3rd issue is on the theme of Communications. This partly celebrates the opening of Information Age, the Science Museum’s new permanent gallery on the history of communications. Two articles in the issue explore the work behind creating the gallery, one exploring the overall approach, and a second describing experiments in participation. But communication is at the heart of most museum practice and research, and the theme is interpreted widely. For example, articles also include a piece on audience attitudes to the role of museums in science policy; a study of the role of users and non-users in the development of telephony in the UK; a discussion of modern citizen science in relation to its 19th century historical antecedents; and an article describing how the experience and techniques of early acoustic recording can be more fully understood through re-enactment of an original orchestral production.
The SMG Journal presents peer-reviewed papers that are relevant to the wide-ranging interests of the Science Museum Group. We welcome submissions from authors in museums and universities world-wide while sharing research conducted by SMG’s four national museums.
