Chief External Examiner:
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced academic staff for the role of Chief External Examiner within the Department of Arts and Cultural Industries, at the University of the West of England. The successful applicant will have responsibility for overseeing undergraduate modular schemes within the subject areas of English, Film Studies, History, Linguistics, Media Culture and Practice. The Chief External Examiner role does not have direct responsibility for any specified field or module. Experience of external examining is essential. Attendance at award boards is expected.
The main roles of the Chief external examiner are:
o To ensure that all assessments are conducted in accordance with university regulations;
o To ensure that the responsibilities of the award board relating to a student’s eligibility for an award are fully and properly discharged;
o To ensure that Award Board recommendations have been reached by means consistent with the University’s requirements and normal practice in higher education;
o To participate as required in any reviews of decisions about individual students’ awards taken during the examiner’s period of office;
o To report to the University on the effectiveness of the assessment and the conduct of the examining board and any matters arising in accordance with the University’s requirements for such reports;
o To report to the Vice-Chancellor on any matters of serious concern arising from the assessment which put at risk the standard of the award(s).
The appointment shall be for a period of four years commencing 1st October 2015.
All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the University’s criteria for appointment.
