EDP Sciences and the French Society of Oral Surgery (SFCO) announce the transition of Médecine Buccale Chirurgie Buccale to full Open Access

Paris, France (May 27 2015): EDP Sciences and the French Society of Oral Surgery (SFCO) have announced the transition of Médecine Buccale Chirurgie Buccale from a subscription based journal to full Open Access starting with the first published issue of 2015. All future volumes and issues of the journal will be Open Access under a Creative Commons license 4.0.

Simultaneously, access is given to the complete archives of the journal published with EDP Sciences, back to Volume 7, Issue 1. For members of SFCO, the printed version of the journal will continue to be published.

This transition is driven by the ongoing movement for scientific literature to be Open Access for scientists, policy makers and the general public interested in research, and especially by the growing demands from funding agencies to ensure free access to research they have funded. As well as providing free access of the content to scientists, funding authorities are also motivated by providing information about the societal impact of their funded research.

“At EDP Sciences, our aim is to support our society partners with the best possible solutions for the publication of their content”, said Jean-Marc Quilbé, President of EDP Sciences. “In this regard, we are happy to support the SFCO with publication of Médecine Buccale Chirurgie Buccale on our EDP Open platform. This solution will give a tremendous increase of usage of the journal’s content and thereby support the SFCO with its mission to achieve the widest possible dissemination of their research.”

The Editors-in-Chief, Professors Jean-Christophe Fricain and Philippe Lesclous stated: “This transition to Open Access represents a huge step for Médecine Buccale Chirurgie Buccale. The worldwide availability of the content will encourage further submissions from authors seeking the widest possible dissemination of their scientific contributions.

Professor Louis Maman, President of the French Society of Oral Surgery further commented, “The official voice of the French Society of Oral Surgery will now be freely available globally. This will drive awareness of the work carried out by our Society in terms of continuing medical education for oral medicine and oral surgery practitioners, and bring the latest research to our readers”.

The French Society of Oral Surgery, SFCO

The French Society of Oral Surgery aims to accompany education, training and research in the field of oral medicine and oral pathology. With this respect, the society organizes an annual congress with multidisciplinary sessions and prizes for the best posters, is funding research projects, elaborates consensus documents and guidelines and many other activities in order to organize, structure and develop this medical discipline in France.

EDP Sciences

EDP Sciences is a not-for-profit publisher, established in 1920, belonging to learned societies with a mission to participate in the dissemination of important research that accelerates scientific progress and cross-fertilisation of ideas of the society in general. EDP Sciences is located in Paris and London and publishes 60 scientific journals in the physical sciences, mathematics, life and environmental sciences, energy, materials and engineering, health and biomedical sciences. It also publishes 20 professional magazines, conference proceedings (www.webofconferences.org) and books.

EDP Sciences fully supports Open Access policies and in 2013 launched a dedicated platform: EDP Open. Some journals have moved from subscription to open access, others have been launched directly as OA journals. Their success, with increased submissions, new indexations and higher impact factors is the result of the success of this movement.
