The Germanic Society for Forensic Linguistics (GSFL) is pleased to announce the third and final official call for papers for the Third Annual Roundtable in Forensic Linguistics and Phonetics. The purpose of the GSFL Roundtable is to provide researchers, educators, policy-makers, and practitioners working within Forensic Linguistics/Phonetics the opportunity to discuss their work in a relaxed interdisciplinary setting.
The confirmed guest speakers include: Dr. Elisabeth Carter (Bucks New University in the United Kingdom); Dr. Gea De Jong (Marburg University in Germany); Dr. Stefan Holgersson (Linköping University in Sweden); Dr. Anne Lise Kjaer (University of Copenhagen in Denmark); Dr. Isabel Picornell (QED Limited in the United Kingdom); and Dr. Dominic Watt (University of York in the United Kingdom).
To help encourage young scholars interested in pursuing a career in FL/FP, the first day of the 2015GSFL Roundtable (Friday, the 4th of September 2015) will be devoted to a special Student Day. During this event, FL/FP experts will provide detailed information about selecting a suitable FL/FP degree programme, conducting FL/FP research, obtaining educational funding, and finding gainful employment both inside and outside of academia.
Confirmed speakers for the Student Day include the following: Dr. Dominic Watt (University of York in the United Kingdom); Dr. Michael Jessen (the German Federal Bureau of Investigations); Dr. Karen McAuliffe (University of Exeter in the United Kingdom); Dr. Ria Perkins (Aston University in the United Kingdom); Dr. I. M. Nick (University of Cologne in Germany).
The two remaining days of the conference will be devoted to paper and poster presentations. Abstracts on the following topics are especially welcome: Educational methods in FL/FP; Teaching Ethics in Forensics; Suicide Letter Analysis; the Language of Violent Offenders and/or Victims; the Language of Deception; Legal Texts and Legal Discourse; Translation of Legal Texts; Interpreting in the Courtroom; Biases against Speakers of Minority Languages/Dialects in Legal and/or Penal Institutions; Speaker Discrimination in Auditory or Written Texts; Inter- and Intraspeaker Variation; Perceptual Speaker Identification; Earwitnesses and Lineup procedures; Deception Detection;Multilingualism and Speaker Production in Written or Auditory Texts; etc.. All interested authors are requested to submit a 250 word abstract by the extended deadline of June 29, 2015. Abstracts may be in either English or German.
