Hi

It was sent with an attachment, I hadn't realised that the list didn't accept them. I'm afraid this was the only info I was given to forward on and it's not possible to copy the text from the PDF, so please contact [log in to unmask] if you'd like to find out more.

(this article gives a vague description:

If so, it needs to be cut and pasted into the body of an email, or replaced by a link.

It’d be interesting to see what C4 are proposing, but this group does not accept attachments.

Best wishes

Hi all

I've been asked to forward on the following TV opportunity for people with disabilities. They would get the chance to work alongside Michel Roux Jr.

The company are particularly keen to hear from people from BME backgrounds.

Please reply directly to Laura with any questions.

Subject: Workshop on the accessibility of research events

Hi

I am a postgraduate research student at Manchester Metropolitan University. I am co-organising a workshop on the accessibility of research events (conferences, seminars, symposia etc.) for disabled people. I am writing a proposal at this stage.

I request contributions for this workshop based on your experiences as a delegate, attendee, presenter and/or organiser. All contributions, ideas or suggestions are welcome from anyone who is interested in this issue.

You may want to think about the following but are not limited to these issues:

Examples of good practice e.g adjustments;

Negative experiences;

Issues or reasons that have prevented you from taking part because the research event was inaccessible to you.

I am interested in this issue of accessibility and research events as a result of my own experience as a disabled student. I often encounter speakers or presenters who have a large amount of text on a slide and ask everyone to read it or use images which they do not describe. Such practices affect my engagement because of my visual impairment.

If you would like to contribute your experiences then please share them with me by email to:

Subject: Fwd: Diner Casting Call

Hi all

Here is in-email text about the Channel 4 opportunity I sent yesterday. As stated *please direct any questions to Laura*- this is not something I am directly involved in, I am just forwarding it on.

Kat

We are making a 4x Channel 4 television series in which we looking for approximately 10 disabled people or those with a variety of long-term conditions (including mental health), who want to seize the opportunity to be trained and gain work experience under the watchful eye of one of Britain’s most renowned chefs, which will hopefully lead to being offered jobs in a restaurant, café or a hotel.

We are looking for people who might be interested in taking part in the series and would love work in the kitchen or front of house. They do not need to have any previous experience in catering but ideally will have a genuine interest in working in catering and hospitality.

We are keen to find people who have been unsuccessful in finding work or feel they are in the wrong job. They either believe their condition is holding them back or feel that employers overlook them because of their disability or condition.

The filming will involve 3 weeks (non-consecutive) of residential training and work experience in London. This will involve Michel Roux Jnr and our specialist disability catering trainers mentoring our group, helping them with their skills and confidence in the kitchen and front of house.

We would need our contributors to be free for most of June, July and the beginning of August in order to be able to take part.

After the training period we will help facilitate the job search process for our contributors. A job at the end of the series is of course not something we can guarantee, but this is what we are hoping for.

We are very aware that duty of care is extremely important when making a series like this, which is why we are working with specialist disability catering trainers, dedicated support staff and chaperones for the filming period. We are also working with Springboard charity, who will provide support for our contributors in the 6 months following the filming period.

Our ambition is to produce a thought provoking and warm-hearted series with the potential to change perceptions about disability and other conditions that affect employability. It is likely that there will also be an accompanying Channel 4 webpage with information for viewers.

Twofour is one of the UK’s most respected TV Companies. We are the producers behind Channel 4’s BAFTA nominated and Emmy winning series “Educating Yorkshire,” Prince Harry’s “Harry’s Arctic Heroes” (BBC One) and ITV’s “A Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards.” We were awarded Broadcast’s “Best Indie Production Company” in 2014.

If you would like to find out more about the series please do not hesitate to contact me on the number below.

Many thanks for your help.

Best,

Laura Martin-Robinson

Hi,

The document is in colour, so not accessible to me. I would also note that the submission and reviewing sites for many conferences and journals are inaccessible and have poor usability properties. This includes events about assistive technology and accessibility.

What about old gits like me whose only experience of cooking is shove it all in one pot and hope for the best? I’ll tell yer sommat mind, I would not want some of the crap these chefs serve, there is nothing worse for me than to got to some fancy dinner and have food served up that looks decorative but you don’t know whether you are supposed to play with it or eat it.

My mum was actually properly trained in catering college, but when she got arthritis that was an end to all that. She tried to pass on her skills to me but with very little success.
