Subject: Survey on automated border control for disabled passengers
Dear all,
Could you help us in distributing our survey for disabled passengers? We are two researchers working for an European Commission funded project FastPass (https://www.fastpass-project.eu/), which designs automated border control gates and processes for the European Union. We would like to know whether disabled passengers are interested in using the automated gates and what they think about the assistance at European airports. The European Disability Forum will publish the survey on their newsletter, but we are also searching for other channels of distribution. Any suggestions are warmly welcomed!
The survey is online at
https://fastpass.iosb.fraunhofer.de/survey/index.php/251947/lang-en
We will also attach an offline version of the survey if somebody would like to use the Word-format and send it directly to our email ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>
or [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> ).
Best regards,
Pinja and Anne-Marie

SHLD Conference 2015
'BIOGRAPHIES, Life Stories and Life Histories'
18th & 19th June 2015, The Open University, Milton Keynes
We are delighted to announce that the next Social History of Learning Disability Conference will be held at the Open University in Milton Keynes on 18th & 19th June 2015.
The theme of the conference is 'BIOGRAPHIES, Life Stories and Life Histories'.
Our keynote speakers are Nicola Grove (Independent trainer and researcher<http://www.drnicolagrove.com/workshops-training/4570277878>), Jan Walmsley (Visiting Chair, History of Learning Disabilities)<http://www.janwalmsleyassociates.com/areasofwork/learning-disabilities> and Professor Kelley Johnson Director, School of Social Policy, University of New South Wales<https://www.sprc.unsw.edu.au/about-us/people/kelley-johnson/>.
To mark the 21st anniversary of the founding of the group, this we will review how life stories have contributed to a more rounded account of the history of learning disabilities. This will focus on the way SHLD and its allies have used life stories since 1994, when the group was founded. We will feature the World Premiere of the film of Mabel Cooper's Life. Mabel was a member of the SHLD since 1995 until her death in April 2013. Her contribution was immense. Her Life Story has illuminated our understanding of institutions and deinstitutionalisation.
Nicola Grove has over forty years' experience working with children and adults who have severe learning, disabilities, initially specialising in augmentative and alternative communication. Nicola will be sharing personal stories about her work in the SLD school. She began using poetry and story in special schools in the 1980s, and worked with teachers and speech and language therapists to explore strategies for making literature accessible. She began researching the use of oral storytelling with children and adults with learning disabilities in 2001, and in 2004 set up the first inclusive storytelling course, now an award winning charity (www.openstorytellers.org.uk<http://www.openstorytellers.org.uk>)
