A preliminary run through the latest Junction Box (no.7) has already
brought forth (a) a felicitous collaboration between Felicity Allen
and Simon Smith (b) an interesting talk (incomplete) by Anthony
Mellors about "Modernism" (though I wish he would not use the term
"Little Englandism" as if it were a given and recognisable cultural
category). As in the very helpful book on Late Modernism (Prynne) he
seems to lay bare the problems with his subject as few others will
dare to, and then insinuates it back into the light (that presumably
will be in the missing second part of this lecture). Lyndon Davies'
essay on Paris looks enthralling but I was in a rush by then.
