FILM PREMIERE IN LONDON, TONIGHT - BY OUR SELVES
20 May 2015
Today is the 151st anniversary of John Clare's death. There are still a few tickets left for a special preview screening in London at 8.40pm tonight, at the Hackney Picturehouse, of a new feature film, By Our Selves, based on Clare's 1841 'Journey Out of Essex'.
The film is directed by Andrew Kotting (Gallivant, This Our Still Life, This Filthy Earth), and features Toby Jones (Frost/Nixon, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Berberian Sound Studio, The Hunger Games). as John Clare, writers Iain Sinclair and Alan Moore, poet Macgillivray as Mary Joyce, Eden Kotting as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, music by Jem Finer, Andrew Kotting as a straw bear, and Simon Kövesi as Jack Randall (sort of).
This summer, the film will be in competition at the Marseille documentary film festival "FID" in July, will be shown at venues in London and Bristol and elsewhere, and is then officially released in September 2015 at the Cambridge Film Festival. An art book of the film with notes and essays by the cast, is forthcoming this summer from "badbloodandsibyl publications" (ISBN 978-0-9568733-1-6).
