The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) http://www.scottishmedicines.org.uk is part of the Evidence Directorate within Healthcare Improvement Scotland and provides advice about the clinical and cost-effectiveness of all new medicines for use within NHS Scotland.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and positive individual to join the Scottish Medicines Consortium.
The Information Analyst / Statistician will provide expert advice and support to the New Drugs Committee (NDC) assessment teams of SMC (comprising clinical assessors, health service researchers and health economists) in the critical appraisal of statistical methods used in approximately 70 pharmaceutical company submissions per annum.
The postholder will lead the provision of specialist advice on the statistical methods used in pharmaceutical company submissions to SMC. This will include giving advice to the assessment teams and committee on, for example, survival analysis/ extrapolation techniques and indirect treatment comparisons/network meta-analyses when head to head studies are lacking. The methods in this dynamic area are highly complex and an excellent understanding of statistical methods used in medical research is critical. There is a high volume of workload, with up to 7 full submissions assessed each month to tight timelines. The post holder will be responsible for reaching decisions on the quality and validity of the statistical analysis which may underpin the evidence base for recommending medicines for routine use in NHS Scotland.
To be considered for this position you will be educated to Masters level in medical statistics or a closely related discipline and have a sound understanding of medical statistics. For more information about this post please contact Kieran McQuaid, SMC Operations Manager, [log in to unmask]
