Background
The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is one of Europe's largest publically funded science and technology organisations, supporting research in Universities and Laboratories, providing facilities, developing technologies and providing skilled people, enabling knowledge exchange and public engagement. STFC supports a wide range of research areas, including the physical and life sciences: from the depths of space to the sub-atomic world, we help UK researchers to understand how the world works. We operate facilities that reveal the secrets of the universe, can break atoms with laser light, reveal the molecular causes of disease and help to make aircraft safer.
The Programmes Directorate is responsible for implementing STFC's Science and technology strategy, science operations and planning, as well as STFC's programmes in education, training, and public outreach.
We are looking to recruit for the Head of External Innovations and Global Challenges, the objective of this group is to maximise the impact of STFC investments.
About the Role
. Develop and direct the STFC Global Challenge and External Innovation Programme including setting strategy & priorities.
. Develop national and international relationships and partnerships active in the Impact arena, representing STFC to demonstrate UK expertise and share best practice.
. Maintain an outward facing awareness of emerging opportunities to showcase STFC funded research
. Be able to manage a diverse team
About you
As the jobholder you will have a first degree, preferably in a STEM or business related subject, with experience of programme management\development and impact evaluation. You will have strong negotiation skills, with relevant scientific and business development experience. You will be familiar with budget management and reporting to senior management. You will be able to manage projects across locations, including international issues. You will be experienced of working at a strategic level, covering people, facilities and business interactions.
