Hello,
I recently bought a Continuum Surelite II-10 laser system (Nd:YAG nanosecond pulsed laser) with an OPO. The input is 355 nm, with a visible output range of 410-710 nm. The BBO crystal has apparently been damaged during our experiments. When I requested for the crystal to be replaced by Continuum, the price turned out to be around US$7000. I looked up the price of the BBO crystal with the same specifications and it is only about $800.
I am not very experienced in repairing and replacing these crystals myself. I am wondering if there are users who have replaced the crystal themselves and what precautions there should be? I looked within the chamber holding the crystal and it appears to be sandwiched between two mounts tightened by screws that can be loosened with an Allen key. It seems to be a deceptively simple operation. I really appreciate any advice on this because there is an order of magnitude difference in the costs. Thanks in advance.
