I want to respond to Ashok’s comments regarding residue. I think that when
you are dealing with large data sets and steaming data, the final form of
the work can be influenced by these underlying factors. We had a student
two years ago that worked in this matter. Her name, project and URL is
listed below. When she started the project, I believe that she had an idea
to start collecting the data and then, when there was sufficient data to
work with, she began to visualize the data and created some stunning
images(see URL). Another way that the work was presented in a gallery
setting was with long scrolls of paper that contained the data. We
encourage this among our students and rather than call it “residue,” we
call them creative accidents. In fine art, the creative process is not
always liner, as it is in animation and motion graphics.
