italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Cari colleghi, I have recently completed a book-length ms. on
criticism of the Medici in Renaissance Florence, and would like to ask
for comments and suggestions on one chapter in particular (I won't
inflict the entire ms. on anyone). Ch. 2 attempts a political reading
in an anti-Medicean key of Michelangelo's Medici Chapel.
I know this reading of the Chapel will be controversial, and I have no
formal training as an art historian, so I would like to ask anyone who
is so inclined if they might help me by commenting on the chapter.
I've learned from painful experience that the more controversial one's
argument, the more one had better be sure one has "all one's ducks
lined up," as we say in America, i.e. you had better give good
evidence, and not say anything foolish.
I have placed the chapter on my Academia.edu page, where, since it is
a "Session," you can easily leave comments. Of course, any advice or
comments I incorporate into the final version will be gratefully
acknowledged.
Thanks very much in advance, saluti e buon lavoro,
Jim Ward

P.S. And if you find my argument too far-fetched for serious
consideration, all I would say is "Lettore benigno, meglio tacere che
dire male di uno studioso tuo compare."
