Hello
Just thought I'd introduce myself to the list. My name is Ian, and I've just started my new job at the British Library as Head of Contemporary British Publications (previously, I've been Curator for Politics). I'm fairly new to the subject of zines, and will be interested in finding out more about the makers, libraries and other projects involving British zines. The Salford zine library looks great, good news about the HLF grant.
The British Library has been collecting zines and underground press for many years, and we've used examples in our exhibitions and learning web pages (see http://www.bl.uk/learning/histcitizen/21cc/counterculture/counterintro.html for one example). Although they can be found on our catalogue, they are probably not as visible as a collection as they could be. I'm really glad that this list has been started, and look forward to hearing more.
All best wishes
Ian

Subject: Hello!
Hi all, I thought I'd break the ice by introducing myself.
My name's Steve and I run Salford Zine Library - a not for profit archive of self published stuff based in Manchester - with my girlfriend. We've recently been awarded some HLF funding so we're in the process of moving to a new website and cataloguing the collection at the moment. I'm a professional librarian by trade and I do Salford Zine Library things in my spare time, but I try and do as many events, exhibitions and other outreach stuff as annual leave allows.
I'd be interested in collaborating on stuff with proper zine librarians and getting involved in any exciting initiatives that come about as a result of this list being a thing.
Hope you're all well!
Steve

Hello Steve, and thanks very much for breaking the ice! It's fantastic news about the Salford Zine Library grant. I look forward to hearing how the cataloguing project develops.
Holly (Callaghan) and I have just set-up this list but, suddenly, Easter leave is upon us so we've not yet had a chance to post any info. We will post more when we return from leave but here's some very brief information about why we set up the list:
We thought it'd be a good idea if those of us involved in UK zine libraries or collections shared information, discussed ideas, and had a place where we could build a community around these libraries/collections. The list is aimed at anybody regardless of professional status working with zines in their library collections, from academic libraries, museum and gallery libraries, public libraries, as well as community grassroots zine collections. The idea is to share our knowledge and resources across the field.
Holly has also set-up a Twitter page @UK_ZineLibs
On a more personal note, I am an Academic Support Librarian at the London College of Communication (LCC), which is part of the University of the Arts London. I manage the special collections at LCC Library and, about 6 years ago, set up a Zine Collection as part of these. We have a Facebook page where we are slowly adding images (copyright permitting!) from the collection https://www.facebook.com/LCCLibraryZineCollection and nearly everything, apart from recent additions, can be searched on the library catalogue http://www.arts.ac.uk/study-at-ual/library-services/
I'm really excited about this network and look forward to hearing from everyone

Hello everyone,
I'm really pleased this list is a thing! My name is Siobhan and I'm a librarian at St Peters House Library, University of Brighton. I've been a zine maker and collector for quite a while, and I've done a bit of research on Zine Libraries in the form of my MA LIS dissertation (2013) and other bits and pieces since. I worked in the acquisitions department at University of the Arts London from 2011-2014, where I helped catalogue zines for the LCC collection (Hi Leila!). We've got a small collection of zines in our special collections here at SPH, but I'm hoping we can collect more in the future as I think they'd fit in really well with the kinds of subjects that are taught here and the things we already have in the library.
Anyway, yes thanks for starting the thread Steve!
Siobhan
