This "Besides the Screen" conference series sounds like a good way to shake up the academic/institutional approach to photography and film.
In particular, digital conservator Dragan Espenschied and I have been commiserating on how poorly prepared traditional archival practices are to handle screen imagery in the age of Pinterest and Vine. These days, just about the only curators who are capturing the relationships essential to these networks work for the NSA.
