School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Heriot-Watt University
Post-doctoral Research Associate in Chemical Dynamics: Reactive Scattering Dynamics at the Gas-Liquid Interface: Bridging the Gap between the Gas-Phase and Solution - Dr M L Costen, Prof K G McKendrick and Dr S J Greaves.
Salary: Grade 7 £30,434 - £37,394, fixed term 3 years.
A research associate position is available to join an exciting new multidisciplinary chemical physics/physical chemistry project funded by EPSRC, with a team of co-investigators at Heriot-Watt University and the University of Bristol. The aim of this project is to study fundamental inelastic and reactive scattering dynamics of radicals at the surfaces of inert and reactive liquids. The experiments will combine molecular-beam scattering with frequency-modulated transient absorption spectroscopy for detection of the scattered products. The interpretation of the experiments will be supported by molecular dynamics simulations and trajectory calculations carried out by Dr D Glowacki’s group at the University of Bristol. The results will have scientific impact on those studying collision dynamics at liquid surfaces, including aerosols, as well as those studying gas-phase and solution-phase reactive and energy transfer dynamics.
The position is available from the 30th June 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter, for a 3-year fixed term.
You should have, or be about to receive, a PhD in a relevant area of Chemical Physics / Physical Chemistry. Experience with lasers and/or vacuum technology is essential.
Informal enquiries should be made to the principal investigator: Dr Matt Costen on Tel +44 – (0)131 451 8197 or at [log in to unmask] and further information is available at dynamics.eps.hw.ac.uk
Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts at Heriot-Watt
