What: ESRC Seminar: Men, ageing and physical activity: Critical reflections
When: Wednesday 3rd June
Where: Leeds Beckett University
More info: http://seminars.ecehh.org
Physical activity is a gendered domain, ranging from masculinised competitive team sports to feminised aerobic-based exercise classes, and we know that physical activity can contribute to (gender) identity performance and body image. But we know little of the types of activity that older men and women engage in, or the extent to which prevailing notions of masculinity and femininity impact on physical activity choices, motivations and practices. This seminar day will bring together key academics and stakeholders in order to raise awareness of gendered physical activity projects, and to discuss the scope for designing health promotion campaigns which are gender sensitive.
Seminars are free to attend. Travel and accommodation bursaries are available to students and ECR's.
This is the third seminar in the ESRC Series 'More of the same is not enough': New directions in ageing and physical activity (PI C. Phoenix)
