Subject: Synthesising the results as part of a literature search request service
Hello all
Here at my organisation we are planning to extend our literature search request service to include providing synthesised answers to search questions (i.e. providing a written summary of the evidence in addition to the usual list of references).
Do you, or do you know of any other library that provides such a service? I'd be really interested to know how many others are doing this.
Kind regards and enjoy the good weather (if you can!)

Subject: business cases for the restructuring of library teams/services
Good afternoon.
I was wondering if anyone had recently written a business case for the restructuring of their library team/service and the need for extra staff? Because of various changes here we feel it is time to restructure, re-band and expand the service, as we can't really develop further in our current form especially with regards to the professional, clinical work. Any example business cases from which I could get an idea of layout, emphasis etc would be so helpful as I need to present this to the powers that be as soon as possible.
Many thanks,

Subject: Copyright query
Hi.
I have a few queries about copyright. I wonder if anyone has the same queries and has an answer.
1. If an article is freely available on the web what should you do? Should any form of copyright guidance be sent to the user along with the link to access the information? What do other libraries do?
2. What if the user cannot open the link due to browser issues. What can be done - refer the user to IT to resolve the browser issue, print out the information and send it to the user/user collects it. What if the information is needed urgently and the user requests the information to be sent to them electronically as a PDF so that they will be able to open it on their PC? What can we actually do in this instance? Nothing? Just refer to IT/print out? What copyright guidance, if any, should be sent to users if you send them a link to information on the web.
These are the questions that fronline staff are asking. Any comments? Is there a forum where copyright questions can be discussed?

I'm currently in discussions with our clinical IT team regarding embedding Uptodate on MEDWAY or ICE. Has anybody here done the same? We're looking for evidence of Trusts that have already embedded so we can pop along and see how it works.
Any help you can offer will be much appreciated.

Subject: Article-level linking in RCN Journals
Hello all,
I've had reply from OCLC who have been looking into this for me (and I
have to say have been very quick to respond), but at the current time it
is not possible to provide article-level links to RCN journals from HDAS
via the OCLC WorldShare link resolver.
OCLC are going to see if a new 'linkscheme' can be created, but say it
may take some time and may still not work (the linkscheme that is
currently available 'rcnpub' does not work properly).
I've added a note to our link resolver record to alert people that
they'll need to browse for the article in the journal, but it's not very
satisfactory.
Sorry I haven't got any more positive news at the current time, but if I
hear anything back from OCLC I will let the list know.
Kind regards,
Jason.

Hello James
I have quickly scanned Google for this and found that the WORD organisation has become All Wales Alliance for Research and Development (AWARD). The lead author, Professor Helen Snooks, is Professor of Health Services Research at Swansea University and can be contacted via their website. Hope this helps.

Subject: Publication by the Welsh Office for Research and Development in health and social care
Hello All
I'm looking for the publication (below) which was published in 2006 By the Welsh Office for Research and Development in health and social care (WORD).
Snooks, H. Peconi, J. Porter, A. (2006). An overview of the evidence concerning the effectiveness of services delivered jointly by health and social care providers and related workforce issues.
I've searched for this report online and the British Library do not hold a copy, I have tried the WORD website but it doesn't seem to be working anymore. I'm wondering if either someone has a copy they'd be willing to send me, or if anyone knows what has happened to the organisation - I'm starting to wonder if it's called something else now?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Subject: Embedded librarians
Hi,
I'm looking for other embedded librarians working in the medical sector ... (mainly to have someone to talk to, to be honest).
So embedded librarian is something I'm defining as someone who sits in departments/on wards to represent the library service in whatever way (I lit search, find papers, do training etc). I suspect most people aren't called embedded librarians, but the defining factor really needs to be sitting in the department mainly rather than sitting in the library.
Is there anyone else out there?
Best,
Genny
