Hi all,
Following on from the message Julie kindly sent on my behalf last week about our post-fire disruption, I can let you know that the RCS is in a better position than we were...!
Work was carried out over the weekend to install an aerial to allow alternative temporary data connections while work continued with the supplier to restore our primary ones. This meant that we're now able to send and receive emails, and have had some internet access, although with reduced capacity (possibly, although I don't claim to be a technical expert, related to the number of pigeons perching on the aerial at any given time).
The main College website was restored as well, which has meant that Members have been able to log in to access subscribed electronic resources. However, some have still been experiencing difficulties that we think are related to the situation, and resources that are hosted on our proxy server will remain unavailable until all services are running through the primary data connections again; we've been informed that this should be on Thursday 16th. Once again, if you deal with RCS members and they're having problems getting to subscribed resources, please encourage them to ring 020 7869 6556 or 6555, or they can now email us again - [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
Information for anyone trying to get in touch with the College is available at http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/news/rcs-website-and-email-services-resume-following-recent-fire-in-holborn#.VS2JeJNQQuM. Thanks to those of you who've helped out and/or offered support - it's much appreciated.
Cheers,
Tom (Head of Library and Surgical Information Services, The Royal College of Surgeons of England)
