Hi,
We ran into this a couple of weeks ago and found that wrapping fslview_bin with this wrapper works:

#!/bin/bash
# "dummy" could be anything - it just suppresses the output.
fc-list dummy
fslview_bin "$@"
-----------------------
For some unknown reason fc-list is MUCH faster than fc-cache, but essentially accomplishes the same thing as a side effect. It is fast enough to run before each fslview start without adding a significant delay.
