Dear Madam/Sir,
I am a postgraduate master student of a dual degree program from Bauhaus Universität Weimar, Germany in collaboration with College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University, Shanghai. Our focus of study is designed to deal with specific urban and spatially oriented issues, using academic, planning and design skills. Currently, I am working on my master thesis research on "Kashmiri Pandit - victims of forced migration". This is my fourth and final semester of the course program.
I found this project to be very important because most of the people I know had a very little idea about Kashmir. We generally just visit this place as a tourist but we forget to make a connection with the people there. So as me, I wanted to know more about the state of Jammu and Kashmir and the people living there. The idea of doing a master's thesis on this topic was suggested to me by my father. He supported me to take up this issue and try to understand the problems of the victims of forced migration. To understand the pain they have been going through not only because they had to leave their homeland, the so-called heaven on earth, but also because they have been living with the name of refugee in their own country, the so-called largest democratic country.
It is a huge state and it was a huge and a very complex topic to handle. My research work then narrows down to the study of preserving the identity of a small community belonging to Kashmir who have been living as refugees for the past 25 years. The study is about understanding the government policy of their rehabilitation program and understanding the needs and demands of the community. To make sure we preserve the identity of this community in the process of their rehabilitation.
I am also interested to know some best practices on rehabilitation of forced migrants.
As a person I would like to gain knowledge by sharing it. I like meeting new people and knowing them. I believe in today's world what we need is to use our knowledge in serving humanity.
I am glad to be part of this community and am hoping for a lot of discussions.
Regards
Anikesh Ashwin
